Foods that heal...Chili

Chili is mainly known as a little vegetable with a powerful punch. It burns the mouth, lips and anything else that comes in contact with it. For some types this is true but there is a variety of different chili's vailable that have a range of heat strengths and flavours.
Chili has also shown a number of therapeutic benefits that are worth taking note of:
Chili (especially the hot varieties), stimulate the circulation which prevents blood clots from forming and in turn decreases the liklihood of a heart attack.
Sweating that is brought on from eating hot chilis causes the eyes to water and the sinuses to excrete mucus, which clears congestions and helps to prevent a cold or flu virus from getting established.
Chili increases the flow of gastric acid which ensures that there is enough acid to kill bacteria in the gut.
3gm of chili consumed in a meal will raise the calorie burning rate by 25% for a couple of hours after eating.
The active ingredient in chili is capsaicin which is what makes it hot. Therefore the hotter the chili is; a lesser amount is needed to eat to obtain the benefits - Two teaspoons of jalapeno chilis is sufficient to improve circulation in the body.
It is important to note that when preparing chili that you don't allow the chili to touch your eyes or any open cuts. Heavy consumption of chili should be avoided as it may lead to an increase in the chances of developing stomach cancer.
Growing: Can be grown in a pot. Plant in well drained soli and keep in direct sunlight. regular watering will dtermine the size and quality of the fruit produced.
