Mind, body and spirit...Float Therapy
September 7th 2006 00:40
Float therapy is a treatment that alleviates the pressure of the body's weight by allowing the mind to reach levels of deep relaxation and meditation. The human body is constantly self-regulating and restoring itself in order to achieve the body's perfect balance, whilst it is in a relaxed state. Floatation, provides a natural means in which to assist the body with this process in order to achieve good health and wellbeing.
By suspending the body in water, in a zero gravity scenario; pressure is taken off the nervous system, which generally bears about 90% of the body's weight. This continous weight load, contributes to ailments such as bad backs, painful feet and legs etc.
The floatation tank is 2.4m x 1.5m x 25cm deep. It is supersaturated with epsom salts and maintained at a constant temperature.
Sessions are usually one hour and during that time the floater has the option of dimming the lights or being in complete darkness. The realaxation state lowers the activity in the brain and puts it in a theta state. This is the state of mind which best responds to learning. The brain is able to balance the linear and analytical activities from both sides of the brain, providing full access to the minds mental powers, strengthening drive and evoking an enthusiasm for life. Taking this into account; some floaters chose to listen to motivational or educational tapes during their session, whilst others prefer complete silence, free from any distraction at all.
The technique also has benefits when used in conjunction with sport and fitness training. Excercise stimulates muscle growth, but that growth does not occur until the body is in a relaxed state and the electrical activity in the muscle is decreased.
Float therapy also diminishes the possibility of injury occuring during sport as it de-stresses the muscles making them handle impact and repetition much easier. In the state of floatation an athlete is also able to concentrate on their game and tactics with full mind, body and spirit synchronization. This results in better focus and ultimately better performance.
Float therapy aids in the treatment of...
asthma, pain management, accelerated recovery form illness and injury, rheumatic conditions, gastric ulcers, high blood pressure, migraine headaches, cardiovascular conditions, dermatological conditions, multiple sclerosis, sleep disorders, alleviates the physical stress of pregnancy, IBS, chronic fatigue syndrome, anxiety and depression, and panic attacks..
