Treating chronic pain...Reiki

August 28th 2006 00:28
Developed by a Buddhist in 20th century Japan; Reiki is a technique used to promote healing and reduce stress. It is administered by laying hands over the body and is believed to balance the life force energy that flows within. This is perhaps where the term "Healing Hands" originated from.

The word Reiki is made up of two Chinese characters. Rei, which means higher power and Ki, which represents life force energy.

It is a simple and safe treatment that leaves the recipient radiant and glowing with a sense of inner peace and has reported miraculous results to various complaints.

Intellect and spiritual belief play no role whatsoever in ones ability to learn the technique or pass it on to another. The technique is not taught but transferred on to a willing student who is then able to utilize the healing properties that they are given.

Although it is spiritual in nature; Reiki is not based on any specific religion and it is not necessary to embrace a certain set of beliefs in order to feel the benefits. However, it is important to live a harmonious and peaceful existence. Many people have reported a stronger connection to God as a result of an experience with Reiki.

During a session the patient is asked to lay down whilst the practitioner acts as a channel for the Reiki energy. As the practitioner moves their hands along various parts of the body; the recipient feels a variation of sensations such as heat, tingling and pressure. This is described as the energy filling the deficiences whithin the body and aura; therfore removing blockages, reopening channels and dissolving negative influence.

Although primarily using the hands; some practitioners are able to channel their energy through areas of their body such as, their eyes or breath and can achieve the same results.

Benefits after an attunement that have been reported are: Pain reduction, reduced heart rate and blood pressure, improvement to immune system function, decrease in the affects of anxiety and depression and in some cases it has been effective in the reduction of cancer cells.

Beacause there is no scientific explanation as to why Reiki works, it cannot be endorsed by conventional medicine per se. However, many medical experts and workers have noticed unexplained improvement in patients that have used Reiki as an alternative treatment.

I think that if you are suffering from chronic pain and are using all resources available to you without relief. Why not try Reiki? After all, it can't hurt can it?
