Meaning supreme ultimate force, Tai Chi is a Chinese martial art style that is believed to have been in practice from as far back as 6000 years ago. It is considered to be a non combative form of martial arts that focuses on balance and the aspects of healing by using energy generated through the harmony of Yin and Yang.

Yin Yang symbol

Yin and Yang represents two sides; Yin being the calm, controlled and dark elements. Whereas Yang, is the warm, active and agressive elements. Combined together, the Chinese believe that they provide a balance of internal energies that smoothly flow through mind, body and spirit.

Chi, refers to good health, complete control, alertness, concentration and the natural alignment of the body.

Because of its slow pace, Tai Chi is beleived to stimulate the good energies that enliven the body by cancelling out the negative ones that block and threaten the possibility of the Chi being restored.

Some of the health benefits:

Stress and anxiety reduction, increased life span, inner peace and immunity, improved coordination, improved mental alertness, management of chronic illness and pain, improved bone density and muscle strength which is beneficial to the prevention of osteoporosis.

Due to its weight resistance techniques; studies have also shown Tai Chi is a great way for women to reduce the flab that accumalates under the upper arms. The results being quite significant over a period of time.

Tai chi is particuarly beneficial for elderly people, pregnant and post pregnant women, and people suffering from ailments; as it is low impact and non intrusive.

Why not give it a try?

one of the interesting things about Chinese philosophy is they accept the need for balance. Good and evil must be equal... whereas, in the West, we're so obsessed with destroying evil...
